Distinguished Nutrition Experts Provide State of the Science on the Health Benefits of Blueberries
Folsom, CA, June 19, 2024 – A recent publication published in Frontiers in Nutrition provides insight from a group of prominent nutrition experts on the health benefits associated with blueberries. These experts gathered in Washington, D.C., to discuss the science behind the effect of blueberries in five research domains: cardiovascular health, pre-diabetes and diabetes, brain health and cognitive function, gut health, and exercise recovery. In addition to providing insight into the health benefits of blueberries in these areas, this paper describes their views on research gaps and recommendations for future research directions.
“We applaud this group of physicians and scientists for sharing their perspectives on the variety of health benefits that consuming blueberries can have, said Leslie Wada, PhD, RD, Senior Director of Nutrition and Health Research at the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC). “The USHBC looks forward to continuing our work to help delineate research gaps that currently exist on the health benefits of blueberries and provide future research directions as we work towards our goal to make blueberries the world’s favorite fruit!”
The article is part of the journal’s Research Topic: Nutritional and Health Benefits of Vaccinium Berries and is titled “The state of the science on the health benefits of blueberries: a perspective.” For more information on USHBC’s health research work, please visit healthprofessionals.blueberry.org.
