USHBC Continuance Referendum Has Passed 

As an Oregon blueberry grower, I know firsthand how much heart, sweat and hope goes into producing this crop. It takes hard work, risk, long days and a lot of commitment. For so many of us, farming is more than a business. It’s our livelihood, our families and something we hope to leave stronger for the next generation.

That’s why I’m so pleased to see today’s announcement from USDA that the USHBC continuance referendum has passed.

With the official announcement that a majority of our fellow growers and importers have voted to continue the work of the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council, I’m filled with gratitude and pride. When our industry comes together, we make bigger opportunities possible for everyone to thrive, and no other organization can expand our markets, elevate blueberries with consumers and unite our category the way the USHBC does.

I also recognize that not everyone voted “yes.” Those perspectives matter, too. I hope industry members who have questions, feedback or ideas about where we go from here will stay engaged and bring those voices to the table. Passing the referendum isn’t the finish line. It gives us the opportunity to keep building on the work already underway, and to be thoughtful about what comes next.

There’s plenty of work ahead, and I’m excited about what we can accomplish together.
